Inner Leadership

Inner Leadership (IL)

To make a real change in yourself you start with: Inner Leadership. Inner Leadership gives you an inner balance and makes you genuinely happier, because you’re more focussed on the essence. And from that point of view it is easier to arrange your daily stuff. Live your life more consciously and with more intensity.

For your Inner Leadership you use your inner resources. You take responsibility for your own behaviour, your own acts. This behaviour makes you more stable and stronger. It is the opposite of pretending or patronizing others. You simply inspire.

A core element of Inner Leadership is being authentic. Authenticity means listening to yourself and behaving to your own core. You can find more authenticity by searching. This inner-part is natural. Your acting, your communication is direct, honest and transparent.

Growing authenticy during your life leads to more personal strength: you show your own maturity instead of putting pressure on people by imposing your authority which is only given by your position.

What does IL mean?

The connection between ‘leadership’ and ‘inner’ exists because of the reflection of the inner personality in the leader. Reflection means not only personal empowerment, but also growth of your circle by your impulses. You express your growth in your decision making and your powerful way of communication. Also doubting is a part of this. Great inner leadership is a result of huge doubts… and perseverance. This new attitude makes a huge impact on the persons around you. A sign of a true natural leadership. Or in other words: charisma! It will not surprise you that Inner Leadership is embedded in the context of your mind, heart, body and circle. You do not mean anything without people around you.

Inner Leadership is not about being in charge or having the power. Inner Leadership is all about taking your own part of what is happening around you. Inner Leadership is all about filling gaps which are necessarily to be filled up. And sometimes they do not need to be filled up! Just being there is enough. Inner Leadership is about taking care. And taking care is the opposite of patronizing!

Inner Leadership means quality for yourself

Do you have the feeling that it’s all too much ? Day in, day out… and have you felt this already for years ? Maybe it’s hard to admit, because there’s no space in your life to stand still for. Nevertheless when you’re coming back home in the evening, or when you awake in the morning… it’s always that same heavy feeling. How can you change something without losing?

The answer to this question is Inner Leadership. Do you want to change without giving up things? Don’t look too far, just look to yourself. Allow yourself a inner balance… and everything changes.

That doesn’t happen automatically. We give you two things as a support: 1. inspiration and motivation, and : 2. a very well developed frame to grow into your new life. This brings you a bottom from where you can continue. Because it can only comes from inside. You need to be convinced of the meaning of Inner Leadership. From this inside convinction your activities follow and you automatically change to your desirable pattern.

Inner Leadership makes you intrinsic happier, because you’re more focussed on the essence. And from that point of view it’s easier to arrange your daily stuff. Inner Leadership is choosing for yourself without neglect the other by a clear focus. That means live your life more conscience and more intense.

What is Inner Leadership exactly ? 3 elements on Inner Leadership are essential: Leadership, Inner and the frame of the 4 component.

Let’s start with Leadership.

A good leadership depends on a vision. As a leader you have a view in which direction you want to go.

Leadership is also social, among persons. A good leadership is also about ‘serving others’. In a team you have different personalities and many different daily needs and requests. Dealing constrictively with those demands requires a lot of your leadership skills.

A special element of good leadership is called : charisma. What is that : charisma ? We think charisma is the difference between acting and really incorporated. Incorporated inside yourself. It’s really a part of your own system. Or in other words : you’re not aware anymore if other persons attend you to something. Because this ‘something’ is a part of who you are. Charisma is an intrinsic part of Inner Leadership, it connects the two main components, leadership and inner.

But more than the connection between the two main components, the concept charisma is based on the main ingredients of the ‘Inner’-part. ‘Inner’ refers to a part of your inner system. You are using your ‘inner resources’. Your inner resources exist out of responsibility over yourself. You can take at least responsibility over your own life, your own behaviour, your own acts.

That’s something else than taking responsibility over someone else what can lead to patronizing. In taking responsibility over yourself you look stable and strong. And without forcing this or acting you appear this attitude to your environment : you inspire. This attitude is also linked with trust in yourself. This trust in yourself extends to confidence in others.

Another component of the ‘Inner’ is authenticity, which means : close to your own core. You can find your authenticity by searching, but strangely enough it’s difficult to change it. Try to change your inner core is not possible and in clumsy ways we are running away further from who we really are. Adolescense is a well-known phase in our life when we try to be someone else than who we are. Authenticy is listening to yourself and behave like you feel comfortable with yourself. You’re congruent with yourself (you do ‘no’ when you think ‘no’ and you do ‘yes’ when you think ‘yes’).

In other words you are balanced and you also have the feeling that you have your focus on your own truth ; a truth that you can’t avoid because it’s an intrinsic part of who you are. This whole journey about authenticity is about discovering during your life.

Growing authenticy leads also to more personal strength: You show your own maturity instead of putting pressure on people by insisting your authority only given by your position. That’s would be inner emptiness.

Last but not least this inner-part is natural. Your acting, your communication is direct, honest and transparant. It’s avoiding manipulation. If you want something, you ask for it, instead of trying to get it by using ‘tricks’. Maybe in the beginning this is scaring, but you have no idea how much more appreciated this will be by your environment.

The connection between ‘leadership’ and ‘inner’

To be an adequate leader for your environment it’s important that you feel your environment. Or in other words : empathy. How can you be empathic (= real leadership) if you don’t know yourself ? Empathy grows by every defeat you experience. Your partner breaks up, you’re fired, you feel ashamed, frustrated, a loser… Instead of feeling superior to others, you feel how other people in the same situation must feel. With every smaller or bigger experience like this your empathy grows. When you hear someone else telling about personal defeats you’re not only able to imagine what she/he says, no, you really feel because you also experienced it by yourself : you understand what that other person is saying. It’s easier for you to stand in someone else’s shoes and that’s empathy. In real leadership empathy is indispensable, so it’s necessary to know yourself very well.

On the other side the connection between ‘leadership’ and ‘inner’ exist because of the reflection of the inner personality in the leader. Reflection about yourself is on one hand the focus on yourself. But not only that. Reflection means not only personal empowering, but also growth of your environment by your impulses. You express that grow in your decision making and your powerful way of communication which makes a huge, natural impact on your environment. A sign of a true leadership. Or in other words : charisma !

Frame of 4 components

Inner Leadership is synonyme with your personality. Your personality has been formed by 4 components. The first one is your mind : the ratio. The second one is your feeling, mostly the base of your thoughts. Something sticks in you after the feelings pop up a several times. Thirdly your body is important. It’s something else than feeling. It’s really about the awareness of the body and expression the body. It’s a totally different dimension. Mostly among us lives with their head and the rest of their body carries their head. But we are so much more ! Your Inner Leadership is influenced by who you are and not in the least place by your body. Last component of the frame in which Inner Leadership is acting is the environment. You are not standing on yourself ; other people influence who you are. You don’t mean anything without people around you. The interaction with your environment is essential for your Inner Leadership.

The purpose of the concept of Inner Leadership is not to be in charge, having the power or being bossy, because that would give you a pleasant, even erotic feeling. Inner Leadership is all about taking your own part of what is happening around you. Inner Leadership is all about filling gaps that are necessarily to be filled up. Sometimes they don’t need to be filled up. You show your Inner Leadership when you have seen that and you’re aware of it, you analysed it and your decision was not to fill it in, and in the end you take your responsibility over that decision.

Inner Leadership is in the end much about taking care. And taking care is the opposite of patronizing! In a natural, pro-active way you inspire others. They feel so much more comfortable with you that they spontaniously, maybe even without words, give you space to lead. Thanks to your Inner Leadership.

Inner Leadership is also about...

Inner Leadership is about taking care of yourself… but also of each other. Taking care is not patronizing. Taking care is looking around, listening around, feeling around and experience what’s needed. Needed in this room, in this moment, in this situation. That’s always different. What’s more needed in this moment: your personal need or the need from some one else, or that from the group? And what’s needed exactly? That doesn’t have to be necessarily an action. Being there can be enough.

Inner Leadership grows with more vulnerability in your life which leads to more confidence. We have to experience trust and confidence to feel vulnerable. At the same time we need to be vulnerable to fully experience and feel confidence. This growth happens by experiences. Inner Leadership happens by activity. Doing, trying out and step by step improving. Making decisions is courageous and makes you vulnerable. Certainly when you are in a responsible position. But with every decision and every improvement your confidence grows.

Life is about changing – over and over again. Transition plays an important role in this process. Inner Leadership is about knowing yourself, trusting yourself. You are like a snake who’s losing his skin: in the core you stay the same, but by more experience also changes occur inside you. This perseverance is a prove of your Inner Leadership.

Our life is full of inconvenient feelings. Do I what I do in the right way? What happens if I make that action? Or even more often: how do I deal when someone else feels hurt by my action? That’s no reason to stop being (pro-)active. By continue this ambiguity changes in resilience. This means you are more able to receive, to accept or even to resist an obstacle. What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. Resilience is a part of growing confidence in yourself.

Inner Leadership is about believing in yourself and believing in what you do. Believing means that you are convinced by something – no matter if it’s right or wrong, no matter what the outside world thinks about it. You believe in it, it’s your passion. Inner Leadership is about this passion, about going for something and take the responsibility for it.

In our society we don’t like to see doubts and insecurity with trainers or leaders.

Why? We want to be protected (by God, the priest, the trade unions, media (information), parents, assurance, security agencies…). Me, as a trainer, now I’m doubting which exercise fits better over 30 minutes? Me, as a trainer, doubt about my identity as a trainer – day in day out. And speaking this out makes me feeling stronger). Maybe some of you stopped at this moment to believe in me as a trainer – because you have different expectations from me. You want to see a trainer in front of you who knows it all.

But doubts lead to wisdom. Doubts and insecurity are inevitable to come to new milestones.

This is real Inner Leadership, because you are going to decide more for yourself instead of relying on other persons (cq leaders). But stays the structure if everyone is deciding for themselves? Where is the balance between deciding for yourself and listening to others? The balance can be found in humbleness and respecting others for what they are. But certainly the balance lies in something else: communication.
