Results of the project Navigate your Inner Compass 2017
Between 5 and 12 November 2017 more than 20 youth workers from all over Europe gathered together in Antwerp, Belgium, to learn more about sexuality, identity and personal growth. In the months since then they’ve started to work on their own personal learning or sharing in their own community, organisation and with their own target groups. Here you find an overview of the outcomes of the impact and dissemination. With a big thank you to all brave participants and loyal partners!
We would like to spread this method and approach, because there’s - regarding the reactions of our participants - certainly a demand for this kind of training courses.
Moreover, the results were also widely spread within the participating organisations. This training course had a deep impact on the participants both on a personal and professional level. There was a clear link with transition and connection to the participants role as a youth worker. We believe that a result is better equipped youth workers who can provide better service to young people.
Quoting participants, from the evaluation forms, we got this messages about their learning outcomes and impact :
« I’ve learned super a lot. »
“I’ve learned even more than sexuality, much more than I expected.”
“I learn slowly. I want more. I want it completed.”
“Certain feelings changed inside me; feelings I didn’t know before. I hope in the future to go back to these feelings.”
“I have feelings of real change: the door is open, I only have to step through it.”
“Suddenly you have understood your life.”
"Navigate your Inner Compass has meant a lot for me. Nice atmosphere in the group. Confrontation with yourself, how participants learn about themselves. Remarkable. The serenity and the trust in the group was great at a level I haven’t experienced in another training or exchange. Also trainer’s approach was special and different and it worked for me very well. For me personally it was both therapeutical and a very much a learning experience. Thanks for everything."
So it seems that for many of the participants this training course made a huge impact. Most of them are still in the shaping years of their lifes. It seems that they easily incorporate what they have learned in their ‘system’, it can easily become a pattern in their daily life. That also influence their environment in the way they interact with that environment.
More concrete the trainers invited the participants to make a realistic, concrete action – a ‘good action’. By sending reminders the trainers encouraged them to make new initiatives, to make a new start, to change a pattern which also can be felt by their environment : colleagues, friends, family, their organisation, partners in their community, municipality, stakeholders, the young people they work with…
Some results shared by participants some on more personal level, some starting a project or an organisation:
« Hello to all, I am working on a Youth Exchange called "Follow the Root", this project is directed to teenagers and youngsters with Alcohol and Drug issues. by now I am searching for 10 partners with experience on this target group. It will be done in the Netherlands during the next summer. I am searching for an active partner willing to support the participants in all phases of the project. The goal is to apply on the Erasmus+ deadline in February 2018. You can find more information at: http://otlas-project.salto-youth.net/8824
“Right now I'm in the process of organising workshops and writing sessions with the aim of publishing an LGBTQI anthology, which will include different perspectives on different sexualities and gender identities. I'm also organising a workshop in September which will deal with gender issues. With regards to body work, i'm using the techniques learnt to be more aware of our bodies with my clients - particularly when it comes to addiction cravings, in order for the clients to identify where they feel their emotions and cravings in ther body.”
“I want to share with you that, despite the odds, I managed to do my good action just in time for the new year: so I am moving out in a couple of days :) It's just the first step, but I wouldn't be able to do it without you guys!"

More projects to come in 2018
On the last day we created some time and space to share more information about Erasmus+ and also capacity building. The 20 participants were exploring each other, their background, professional goals... to see if they could share plans to work together.
These are the project which were announced:
Concrete project: Finding New Life in India (working with input from the training Navigate your Inner Compass). Theatre workshop for psychologist and educators. After assessing the outcomes of this project the initiators are also planning to apply for this project in Erasmus+.
Four persons start a project about gender identity and expression in connection with sexual orientation. The method will be experiental learning, moving and dressing. It’s about feeling comfortable in your own gender identity. In particular about stereotype and privileges, against racism. Inspired by the video : « Danger of single story ». The group of four focus on people with fewer opportunities.
Two other participants organise a youth exchange with a group of 30 young persons. It will be an outdoor project about music, personal development, expressing ourselves (including body movements). Target group could be : orphans or young persons with family issues or other unstable circumstances (fewer opportunities). The persons are looking for a reliable partners to build a network.
Two other participants work with traumatised persons, in particular sports and health lifestyle (inclusion: stimulate to participate, persons with behavioural problems). It will be a youth exchange for persons between 18 and 25 years old.
One person started a project about refugees and art in Greece. Many refugees can be a bridge between classes in the society. This project will be given in the context of Inner Leadership.
One person introduced in her community a project about (sexual) racism. She will do this through the body movement, because then you really feel it.
More visibility of this project in other countries
All the methods, tools, resources, online books, pictures, pictures of all the flipcharts, ted-talks etc were collected and put on a dropbox and shared with all the participants.
A film has been made by the group about the trainings week and how the participants have experienced it. This film has been spread in the Facebookgroup and also over all the partners. General link made by the participants and spread over all the partner organisations: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RYkX9jsbCmiy1QOmHdOf-Yjm4CJ0iJ2J/view
We are busy with a health promoter and focuses on different health topics. We do realize that lately more and more of our young persons are looking for personal support and coaching in their daily life. They have this feeling of being lost and don’t know which way to take. Therefor the training courses of “navigate your Inner compass” were essential for our participants, for us and our volunteers, and for them, the youngsters. We want to continue working on this topic to give the opportunity to more youngsters to be supported on their journey and feel they are moving forward in their life. The idea is also to create a kind of “health academy” where we will organize different events for young persons on different health topics to give them answers on their questions. Also to be there for them any time to give them the personal support they need. We are going to use the tools, methods, outcomes and other inspiration from the Navigate-project to frame more our "health academy". Target group: Flemish youth work and young persons in our community and in our national network.
Stories from the two Italian participants you find here:
"Here you can find two brief messages that we shared on our page, also though the hashtag. If there would be further material to share, we will be happy to help disseminating it!/ Here you have the articles the participants wrote and we shared repeatedly on our page:"
"Furthermore, I want to apprise you that we will share the pictures and updates the participants will hopefully send us through Facebook with the hashtag #NavigateYourInnerCompass - unless you request to use a different one(s)."

Austrian partner :
On November 28th we had an information event about „Erasmus+: Youth in Action“ in Innsbruck. We invited one of the participants to speak about her experience in the training course “Navigate your inner compass”. She showed pictures, the video and gave personal insights into the course. About 30 people were listening to her presentation and had the chance to have a face-to-face chat with her about this experience. In the attachment I send you two pictures of this event.
On February 27th I had a workshop with 20 future youth workers of the region of Tyrol and I presented the Erasmus+ possibilities in general and this TC in particular. I don’t have pictures right now, but might get some soon.
On March 8th, we have again a special info event about the topic of “going abroad”. I will inform interested people about the Erasmus+ possibilities and again will speak about your TC.
The Training was published on www.mei-infoeck.at and also on our facebook page (www.facebook.com/InfoEck.Jugendinfo.Tirol/?fref=ts ).
